Geoff preaches at CFBC on 2 Peter 1:10-11 on how believers can make their calling and election sure. This is done by living a life of holiness and by fixing our hope on heaven. Geoff brings in the larger context of 2 Peter 1 and shows how every believer in Jesus Christ must validate his calling by a life of Christ-exalting holiness. Listen & apply!
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches Ephesians 5.3-6 on Abstaining from evil. The two headings are:
1. The RESPONSIBILITY for you to abstain from evil
2. The REASONS for you to abstain from evil
This sermon is an exposition of 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 at the chapel of Brookes Bible College in St Louis, MO. Pastor Geoff exhorts the men and women to learn from Paul's example when ministry is tough, and sheep are biting. How do you respond?
Rather than responding impatiently, emotionally, impulsively, or unwisely, we must THANK before we SPANK. Paul models this in 1 Cor 1.
Paul gives thanks for...
1. God's amazing grace (4)
2. God's profound wisdom (5-6)
3. God's triumphant promises (7-8)
4. God's faithful character (9)
"Christian: Do Not Walk Like the Unbelievers Walk!"
In this message, Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Ephesians and covers Paul's exhortations to believers to NOT walk like they used to live -- to NOT live like the unbelieving Gentiles live. They live in their futile minds. How is this described?
1. They are DARKENED
2. They are ALIENATED
3. They are CALLOUS/depraved
"Christian: Be Armed With Your Belt & Breastplate!"
Pastor Geoff talks from Ephesians 6:19-20 and gives practical counsel to Christians on how to practically and daily serve in worldwide missions.
Pray for your missionaries...
Pray for their FAITHFULNESS (faithful to truth, to the Word)
Pray for their PERSEVERANCE (persevere thru hardships, changed situations, visa problems, etc.)
Pray for their PROCLAMATION (faithful to evangelize)
Pray for their HUMILITY (for them to stay lowly and Christ-like)
Pray for their USEFULNESS (God may use them)
Pray for their COMMUNICATION (with their local church & other believers)
PREACH THE WORD! (2 Tim 4.2)
what are the 4 compelling reasons from the surrounding discourse/context?
Because of the...
1. Sinful context
2. Sufficient Scriptures
3. Supreme mandate
4. Singular ambition (of saints)
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches this wonderful text on Christ's authority over demons and this demonized man.
We'll walk thru this account with 3 headings:
1. The guy who seemed too wicked to be saved (1-5)
2. The Savior who is able to save completely (6-13)
3. The transformation in the man's heart & life (14-20)
This message concludes the long discourse that Jesus gave with both the disciples & the Pharisees present (15:1-17:10) and here our Lord provides 3 crucial lessons for all of His disciples...
1. TOTAL Forgiveness
2. TRIUMPHANT Faith
3. TIRELESS Faithfulness
Listen to this exposition & apply these ambitions to your life to be an obedient & glad disciple in the blessed Lord!
"Christ's Commission to All Christians! Go & Preach Christ & Call All to Repent!"
This account shows the power/authority of Jesus Christ over NATURE / disaster. Christ calms the storm while he and the disciples are in the boat.
His power is seen...
1. as a result of their obedience.
2. in a situation of terror
3. as he's the Savior of power
4. with the sure-cure of fear
*Jesus took the wrath of God for you (propitiation):
1. It was a soul-agonizing wrath (32-34)
2. It was necessary to prepare in prayer (35)
3. It was a wrath that Jesus willingly took for you (36)
4. It was a lesson for you to watch and pray (37-42)
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Ephesians.
In Ephesians 2:1-10 -- Paul showed the work of the gospel in our relationship with God.
Now, in Ephesians 2:11-22 -- Paul shows that in LIGHT of that work of Christ in bringing us to God, we have PEACE with one another (=Jew and Gentile).
In Ephesians 2:11-13 we looked at who we were (alienation from God). Now in Ephesians 2:14-18 we see our reconciliation with God and with each other. This is a glorious text that gives 3 marvelous pronouncements for the child of God.
1. Jesus is our PEACE WITH EACH OTHER.
2. Jesus is our RECONCILIATION WITH GOD.
3. Jesus is our ACCESS TO THE FATHER.
