Pastor Geoff preaches the gospel to the folks at the Senior Living Home in Ellisville, Missouri. He focuses on the term: "Christ" and shows what the Anointed One refers to:
Jesus is anointed PROPHET
Jesus is anointed PRIEST
Jesus is anointed KING
This sermon continues the expository preaching series through the Gospel of Mark. Here, Pastor Geoff preaches Mark 12:35-37 -- Jesus is LORD.
Here we see 2 confessional declarations:
1. Jesus is MAN (35)
2. Jesus is LORD (36-37)
And in Psalm 110:1 - where Jesus quotes - we learn more about the kingship and reign of Messiah-Jesus!
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff exposits Mark 2:18-22 on another account of "conflict" in Mark 2. The Jewish leaders are upset because the disciples of Jesus are NOT fasting -- like their disciples are.
In Jesus' reply, we see 2 life-altering and glorious declarations.
1. Jesus' coming is CELEBRATORY (v.18-20)
2. Jesus' gospel is EXCLUSIVE (v.21-22)
Jesus is the Bridegroom! His people don't fast (=as expression of legalistic works-righteousness and/or mourning/despair). Rather, when the Bridegroom is taken, then we will fast out of hunger/yearning for our Bridegroom's soon-return.
You cannot mix Jesus and His gospel with OT Judaism and law-keeping. Christ brings in the new. He didn't come to reform but to regenerate!
This account teaches that JESUS IS BETTER.
"Jesus Is Alive & Returning! Be Ready for His Soon-Coming!"
Pastor Geoff fills the pulpit at Providence Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Edwardsville, IL and proclaims the glorious reality that Jesus Christ, right now, by grace, intercedes (prays!) for His people continually!
What an amazing thought!
This message provides some axioms regarding the priestly -- intercessory -- work of Jesus Christ for His people!
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 4:14-30 which begins the Galilean Public Ministry of Jesus Christ -- a period of about 18 months where Jesus will saturate the land of Israel with His teaching, preaching, and miracles.
In this text, Jesus reads Isaiah 61 in the synagogue in Nazareth and proclaims Himself as THE fulfillment of that Messianic text. Today that Scripture is fulfilled in their hearing; they must, today, respond to Him. Will they receive Him or reject Him.
YOU must also respond to Jesus today. Will YOU come to Him or will you refuse Him?
"Jesus in Capernaum: He Proves Himself as Messiah By Means of Miracles!"
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 4 and shows Jesus in the early part of His public ministry where He performs miracles in Capernaum -- he heals a demon-possessed man, he heals Peter's mother-in-law, and many other crowds.
Listen to this message as Pastor Geoff provides 4 ways that Jesus proves Himself as Messiah!
"Jesus Humbled Himself to Death; God Highly Exalted Him!"
Pastor Geoff exposits the Word from Mark 5 on the woman who had the bleeding condition for 12 years. She came up to Jesus, touches His garment, and was physically healed.
In this account, we see:
1. Her THOROUGH LOSS
2. Her THOROUGH LIFE
"Jesus Heals a Sick Woman on the Sabbath: Some Glorify God & Some Rage Against God!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke's gospel. In Luke 13:10, Luke begins a new travel unit narrative that journeys through the final couple of months of Christ's life before the Passion Week. In Luke 13:10-17:10, we have the final travels and teachings and conflicts of the final months of Christ's life.
This story in 13:10-17 is of Jesus healing a 'bent double' woman in a Synagogue on the Sabbath. Christ by His power supernaturally heals and reveals His overwhelming tenderness toward the hurting woman & His overwhelming power of Satan, the Evil One.
"Jesus Heals a Demonized Boy: The Little Faith of the Disciples Exposed"
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 9:37ff as Jesus descends from the Mt of Transfiguration with Peter, James & John, and is immediately confronted with a father whose boy has a demon and the other 9 disciples cannot cast it out.
This story exposes the little faith that the 9 disciples had and their lack of prayer. This text calls us as the readers to have a mighty faith in a mighty God which is conjoined with persistent, believing, fervent prayer (as demonstrated by the demonized boy's father).
"Jesus Heals a Bleeding Woman and Raises a Little Girl from the Dead!"
Luke includes 2 more miracles at the conclusion of chapter 8 to reveal the power & authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Earlier in Luke, he showed that Jesus has...
1. power over the storm (8:22-25)
2. power over the demonic realm (8:26-39)
And in this message, there are 2 more miracles that Luke records:
3. power over all disease, defilement (8:43-48)
4. power over death (8:40-56)
Look to Christ and His mighty power & understand that He is accessible and available to save any and all who come to Him in saving faith!
Pastor Geoff preaches on the text where Jesus feeds the multitude of people with only 5 barley loaves and a few small fish. This text shows that Jesus is God's provision for our salvation. No other way to be saved than to come to Jesus Christ -- the Bread of Life.
Pastor Geoff preaches on the story where Jesus has been invited into a home of a ruling Pharisee and it is in this context where Jesus rebukes:
1) the invited guests for seeking to take the places/seats of honor at the dinner feast.
2) the host himself for he invited only his friends (that could repay him!) and did not invite the poor, crippled, lame, blind, and outcasts.
This message and text deals with the sin of pride. And in this message, pastor Geoff concludes with 7 ways to practically wage war with your pride & replace it with humility.
Winter Retreat Session #3. Pastor Geoff preaches on John 10:11 and many other various Scriptures that teach that Jesus died on the cross for His own sheep. When he died, he actually, fully, eternally, and effectually accomplished salvation for His elect only. Hear how this message should encourage your heart as you learn what Jesus endured and accomplished for His elect.
