Revelation 2:18-29 is Christ's letter to His Church in Thyatira. Though they had done many good deeds and served the LORD faithfully, he sternly reprimands them because they tolerate sexual immorality and idolatry in the Church. Listen and apply the words of this letter while Christ gives you opportunity to repent!
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff teaches through this
amazing drama of events as Jehoiada plans a
remarkable coup against Athaliah.
We see in this chapter:
1. The Planned Coup
2. The Permitted Kill
3. The Public Covenant
May we strive to be like Jehoiada and may we marvel
at the amazing faithfulness of God to preserve young
Joash -- and thus preserve the Davidic lineage and
"The Demoniac: A Troubled Soul Changed Into a Transformed Worshiper!"
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff reflects on the Kingship of God and the ultimate centrality of God in all things. Only God is ultimate and worthy of all praise. And His great design in all of creation is for all nations to worship Him for His greatness & glory.
This sermon provides 4 applications for us from this magnificent, Kingship Psalm.
Gaze upon the transcendence of God and the holiness of God from Psalm 96.
In this psalm, Pastor Geoff shows how important it is to remember God & cling to His faithfulness. This lengthy psalm works through the history of Israel from Exodus - Judges and shows how utterly faithless, apostate, and idolatrous Israel really was. Yet even amidst Israel's faithlessness, God remained gloriously faithful to Himself and His covenant-keeping love with His people!
"The Distinguishing Saltiness of a Believer -- Apollos"
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches at the Senior Living Home in St Louis Missouri and heralds the glories of Jesus Christ at the wedding at Cana.
In this sermon we see:
1. the Festal occasion (1-2)
2. The shameful predicament (3-5)
3. The unmistakable miracle (6-10)
4. The divine glory (11)
Pastor Geoff describes in this audio-blog the importance of having a biblical, reformed, robust view of anthropology and how this impacts biblical evangelism.
Mankind -- anthropology -- is dead in sin & cannot be shoved further from God nor can a man bring someone closer to God.
Sovereignty of God in salvation -- salvation is wholly & entirely of the Lord and for His glory.
Thus, when we do evangelism, we cannot tailor our "method" to try to make people more 'receptive' to the gospel -- since this will never happen. A nonbeliever is dead in sin & hostile to God and His gospel. It is only when the Spirit of God awakens a sinner by giving life that the sinner will come to trust in Christ & love Him. But this happens through the faithful proclamation and declaration of the good news of the gospel.
Therefore -- let us not try to evangelize to 'befriend' people or 'make people more receptive' to Christ. This shall never happen. Let us be full of love and speak urgent gospel truth to them and plead with them to repent and trust in Christ!
"The Downfall of a Society: Being Abandoned by God Because of the Idolatrous Love of Sin!"
Pastor Geoff preaches through Romans 1:18-32: the downfall of a society.
The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness who suppress the truth. All men know about God but they suppress that truth. And because they exchange the worship of the one, true God for anything else, God eventually gives a people (society, civilization) over to their own selfish, sinful, corrupt lusts of the heart.
God gives a people over to...
1. Sexual Immorality
3. A Depraved Mind
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff works through the eternal, unchanging, authoritative, & sufficient Word of God and proclaims the gospel of Jesus Christ!
"The Downfall of Asa: 5 Ways to Shipwreck Your Faith!"
Pastor Geoff preaches the parable that Jesus tells while at a home of one of the rulers of the Pharisees (Luke 14:1ff). In this story that Jesus tells, a host provides a large, gracious, lavish banquet and calls those who were invited to come for everything is ready!
But they all -- alike -- begin to make excuses and they refuse to come! O the tragedy of wasted opportunity! O the many millions that now perish in hell because of excuses!
Christ tells His slave to go out and compel men to come in to the feast so that His house may be full!
This is our mission -- every Christian's mission! -- to go out to the lost and compel them to come in! We are to urge, press upon, plead with, and compel all sinners to come to Christ and to enter this most glorious banquet!
Let us obey our Savior's call & go out to the lost & plead with them to come to Christ!
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches part 4 of the "O Come Let Us Adore Him" Christmas Series. Here, he deals with the text of Herod killing the children in Bethlehem and the surrounding areas. This shows the enemies' hatred of Jesus.
Then we see Joseph leading his family back to Israel, to Galilee, to Nazareth! And we see the humiliation and lowliness of the God-Man who came to earth! What humility and lowliness! What a despised and rejected One this Man of Sorrows is!
