"Knowing the Will of God" — A Guide for Biblical Decision Making
Geoff provides clarification for the different ways that the will of God occurs in Scripture. Then he provides a host of practical questions to ask while making those decisions that are not specifically or directly spelled out in God's Word. Listen to and apply this sermon!
Do you have the DESIRE and ASPIRATION to the office of overseer and the work of ministry?
Do you believe your marriage is an “exemplary” marriage, though not perfect but an example for others to see and emulate?
Do you manage your own household well keeping your children in order? Do you teach them truth? Do you protect them from danger (spiritually)? Do you lead in family worship?
Are you sexually pure? Are you truly a “one-woman man” and do you abstain from all porn and fornication (in every form)?
Where do you need to grow in your *character* as a man of God (see, e.g., 1 Tim 3:3-6)?
Do you believe that you are doing the work of an elder currently? Are you teaching truth? Are you protecting from error? Are you ministering to the souls of people? Are you maturing in the faith?
Do you agree fully with the CFBC What We Teach statement? If not, where do you disagree?
Are you willing to make the time to prioritize elder meetings (twice a month on Sunday mornings) and shepherding needs as they arise, to the best of your ability?
Pastor Geoff preaches on Paul's prayer in 1 Thess 3:11-13. He highlights what prayer is, the need for prayer, how to pray, and how we can learn from Paul as he prayed for the Thessalonian church. Listen to & apply this sermon.
"Learn from Titus: O God: Give Us Manly & Holy Men of Integrity!"
Pastor Geoff provides a few thoughts from Luke 5:16 about the prayer life of Jesus. His was a prayer life of being alone with God, it was of paramount importance, it was communion with the Father, and it was strength-giving for Christ.
Let us learn to prioritize prayer like our Savior did so we may be effective for God.
"Learning from God's Word How to Call Upon God in Prayer"
In this message, Pastor Geoff preaches on the "Qoph" stanza of Psalm 119 (verses 145-152) where David "cries out to God" with all his heart asking God for mercy, deliverance & His listening ear.
This stanza instructs us as the people of God how to "call on God" in prayer:
1. Call upon God earnestly
2. Call upon God always (continually)
3. Call upon God biblically
4. Call upon God humbly
5. Call upon God confidently
Listen to this exposition through Psalm 119:145-152.
"Learning from Jesus as He Evangelized [Shared the Gospel]"
Pastor Geoff gives a brief devotional on John 4 and looks at how Jesus engaged the immoral, sinful, Samaritan woman at the well. And particularly, Geoff shows how Jesus engaged her and shared the gospel with her.
Some very important and helpful elements of evangelism arise in this conversation that Jesus had with the woman.
Listen and learn and do likewise!
"Learning from King Jehoshaphat: 3 Priorities for a Godly Leader"
Pastor Geoff explains how we can learn how to pray for other believers — called, 'intercessory prayer' — from Paul in Colossians 1:9-11.
His prayer encapsulates the spiritual growth and Godly conduct of the Colossian believers! O how marvelous would it be for every church today to pray following this model as we pray for other believers within the flock — even by name!
Pastor Geoff speaks to the young people at CFBC and provides 4 lessons — 4 powerful marks — so they can prepare (now!) for marriage.
1. Be humble -- not prideful
2. Be gentle -- not angry
3. Be patient -- not selfish
4. Be tolerant -- not intolerant
Listen to this exhortation to the young people!
"Lessons on Financial Giving and God's Provision!"
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches through Paul's very personal paragraph of gratitude and comfort to the Philippians and Pastor Geoff brings out 5 principles for financial giving that we see in this text.
Pastor Geoff preaches Colossians 1:9ff on the prayer of the Apostle Paul for the believers in Colossae. How does Paul pray for them? What does he pray for? How does he pray for their growth? What does he want? How can we learn from this so that we can pray effectively and biblically for one another?
Pastor Geoff provides 7 God-given lessons on praying for the church from this text.
"Let the Children Come to Christ! 12 Persuasive Reasons to Believe Today!"
In this account, children & babies are brought to Jesus for Him to touch them, bless them, and pray for them. But the disciples rebuke those who brought the children and Jesus, when He saw this, became indignant & welcomed all the children to come to Him -- for to such as these belong the kingdom of God.
This message builds on our Lord's statement & provides 12 compelling reasons for all young people to come to Christ early in life!
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff continues Matthew's narrative of Jesus' birth and infancy. In this text the theme is that the MAGI/WISE MEN have come to WORSHIP the King! Verse 2 and Verse 11 speak of them coming to worship Him. That's the theme/inclusio/bracket of the section.
This sermon helps us understand true worship in 6 directions:
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff continues the verse-by-verse eposition through Luke's gospel and preaches on Levi's conversion account and his subsequent dinner-party for Jesus.
This sermon teaches about TRUE DISCIPLESHIP. Jesus' call of Levi and Levi's response proves what a true disciple really is: one who renounces everything & yields totally to the cause of Christ. True Christianity is absolute & full submission to His Lordship & supremacy over all things.
Listen to this sermon & "examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith". If these three points do not describe you, then repent & believe today!
