Pastor Geoff preaches the portion of the Roman Trials when Christ Jesus stands before Herod Antipas. Herod questions Jesus and after Jesus remains silent, Herod turns to mocking, jeering, and contemptuous behavior toward Christ, the King.
This sermon provides 4 features to see in this narrative.
"Jesus On Trial Before the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate"
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 11:14-26 which comprises an exorcism miracle and then a subsequent conflict that erupts because of Christ's powerful works.
It is an amazing narrative because the miracle itself (the exorcism) only occupies one verse! All of the remaining verses in the chapter deal with the virulent hostility and the surging animosity that soars because of Christ's powerful and undeniable works.
Listen to this message which focuses on Christ's almighty power over Satan, over the kingdom of darkness, and over sin! Our Savior, the Lord Jesus, has come and has defeated and destroyed the works of the devil!
Let us rejoice in Him! Let us cast our souls on Him! Let us rely fully and comfortably in Him!
In this message, Pastor Geoff walks through this narrative & provides four points in understanding the text. He also shows how the Pharisees of old 'fenced the Law' by adding many (many!) additional laws to keep the Sabbath.
Jesus proclaims His unrivaled authority over the Sabbath by declaring that He Himself is, in fact, LORD over the Sabbath. Bow to His authority & worship Him!
"Jesus Promises Immediate Heaven to a Guilty Sinner!"
Pastor Geoff preaches the 2nd saying of Christ from the cross -- "Today you will be with me in Paradise." Jesus spoke this to a guilty, sinful, rebellious thief who was crucified! All the thief did was recognize his sin, see how holy God is, know he deserved to die, and he cried out in simple faith for mercy from Christ!
This sermon walks through the paragraph in Luke 23 and helps us see how Jesus promises immediate, eternal heaven for every Christian at the very moment of death.
Pastor Geoff preaches the narrative of Jesus raising Jairus' daughter from the dead.
1. See the desperation of the Father
2. See the death of the girl
3. See the divinity of the Savior!
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke. This account in Luke 7:11-17 shows how Jesus is in fact the true prophet of God as He raises a widow's son from the dead. By His spoken Word alone, Jesus Christ raises the dead -- he gives life to dead men by His grace & by His initiative.
This historical account also pictures the spiritual reality of regeneration.
This sermon provides 4 ways that we can go back in time and see and experience the events as they unfolded in the ancient city of Nain.
In this sermon, we see the key phrase: "your sins are forgiven" (4x). Jesus performs the miracle of healing the paralytic to SHOW that He, the Son of Man, truly is divine & has all authority to forgive sin!
1. The Faith of the sufferer.
2. The forgiveness of the Savior.
3. The fury of the scribes.
Jesus upholds the beauty & dignity of marriage -- God's design for marriage. But in Matthew 19 Jesus does permit one reason for divorce, the ending of a marriage, and that is for ongoing, perpetual, unrepentant sexual sin. Only then, the believing spouse is permitted to pursue marriage. He does not need to do so, but he may do so if he so chooses.
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 19:41-44 and heralds this pericope unique to Luke during the Triumphal Entry procession. As He rides on the donkey presenting Himself as Messianic King on Sunday of the passion week, we see 3 characteristics of our Messianic King:
1. He wept compassionately
2. He prophesied judgment
3. He offers salvation
Marvel at this glorious Christ who has such a tender compassion for the lost & for the doom that those who reject Him will receive.
Pastor Geoff pleads with the many hundreds and thousands who walk by the busy area in St. Louis, Missouri to turn from their sins & flee to Christ. Jesus will return! And it may be today! And when He returns, He will repay and recompense men for all that they have done.
Pastor Geoff preaches on the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ which is most certainly sure to come in the future. All who are not reconciled to God thru faith in Christ alone will be punished under His everlasting judgment.
This is a wake-up call on the streets of St Louis, MO calling all men and women to believe in Christ to be saved from coming wrath!
"Jesus! Meditate Diligently, Zealously & Satisfyingly in Him!"
Pastor Geoff preaches Mark 1.21-28 in the Wednesday night prayer meeting & Bible study. We see the *unrivaled authority* of Jesus Christ -- in 2 ways:
1. Christ's authority WHEN HE TAUGHT THE TRUTH (21-22)
2. Christ's authority WHEN HE EXPELLED THE DEMON (23-28)
What power our Savior has! What authority! What a commanding boldness He exemplified!
"Jesus' Authority Over the Demonic Realm! Learn of the Maniac Who Became a Missionary!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the text where the demonized man approaches Jesus and Jesus heals him wholly.
This message covers what demon possession is, what the demonic realm is like, the power and authority of Jesus Christ, and how the work of Christ in the soul of a man truly changes him so that he is called to go and declare all that God has done for him.
This story of the healing of the demonized man is a sort of picture of conversion for every person.
Listen to this sermon & speak of all the great things that Christ has done for your soul!
"Jesus' Authority to Heal! His Priority to Pray! His Mission to Preach!"
This message continues the "Busy Day" of Jesus' Great Galilean (18-month) ministry. In this text, we see the great power, the glorious authority of Jesus Christ:
1. Jesus' authority over all disease
2. Jesus' authority over all demons
3. Jesus' priority in his praying
4. Jesus' primacy in his preaching
This sermon covers Mark 1:9-11. We observe the Baptism of Jesus around 3 key words:
1. Identification -- Jesus identifies with John and his message (9)
2. Preparation -- this baptism is the last event in the private preparation for Jesus' ministry that He will inaugurate. Also, the Spirit of God comes upon Him (v.10)
3. Affirmation / Authentication -- this is the Father's vocal affirmation from the heavens that Jesus is the Beloved Son and in this Son, the Father is well-pleased (v.11)
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches/expounds Mark 3.13-19 -- the choosing of the 12 Apostles.
We need men -- ministers! -- who pursue great likeness to Jesus Christ, who are conformed to Christ, who are zealously ardent in their affection & love for the Savior.
3 applicational statements from this paragraph:
1) VIGILANTLY PRAY! The intercession for the 12 (v.13; **Luke 6:12 - Jesus spent all night in prayer)
2) EMBRACE WEAKNESS! The identification of the 12 (v.16-19)
3) PROCLAIM CHRIST! The mission of the 12 (v.14-15)
