Pastor Geoff provides a pastoral call and exhortation to believers to be serious about Christ and walking in holiness and to resist the temptation to play games with cultural, easy, lazy Christianity.
Let us grow, by God's grace, in our singular zeal for the honor & renown of Christ!
Pastor Geoff preaches on the text in Luke 24:36-43 (and the parallel in John 20) when Christ appears to the disciples when they were locked behind closed doors (and Thomas was absent). He is the solution for the troubled heart.
He COMES to you.
He COMFORTS you.
He COMMUNES with you.
He CONVINCES you.
Pastor Geoff preaches the biblical gospel -- the Reformation gospel -- from Romans 1:16-17. In this sermon, Pastor Geoff shows what the true, biblical message of the gospel is under 5 headings that come out of these verses.
This message also shows how the biblical gospel CAN NOT be mixed with the Roman Catholic gospel. They are at odds with each other and cannot unite together. We who have the only true message of the gospel must reach out in love to our friends and proclaim salvation by grace alone, in Christ alone, through faith alone -- ALL for the glory of God alone.
In this audio-blog, Pastor Geoff elaborates on his sermon preparation routine each week as he prepares full-length expositions for CFBC, for open air preaching, and for men's studies, homeless shelters, and senior living facilities.
Pastor Geoff provides some benefits for having a printed, paper bible that is open and on your lap at church (as opposed to using a tablet or digital device). This is merely pastoral advice and counsel for using a Bible.
it aids you in focusing in Scripture alone rather than the temptations a device may bring.
it prevents the endless distractions that could come with an electronic device (text/popup/reminder/internet)
it sets an example for the children/teens to have an open Bible
it serves in cross-reference study to have fingers in 2 or more scriptures to compare.
it helps you learn the order of the books of the Bible better.it familiarizes you with the text & with locating Scriptures for future reference.it may allow you to mark in your Bible a note or two or a cross reference.it contributes to the benefit of reading books (chapters) and not just reading clips/quotes (from a device)
it presents a kind of priority & seriousness as you carry and open and study your Bible.
it will not die if you use it constantly for 10+ hours. there's no battery life to the written text of the Bible.
Pastor Geoff talks about the preaching of Jesus Christ. How did he preach?
Note 5 characteristics of Jesus' preaching from Luke 8:1 --
the ongoing work -- he began going...
the itinerant work - going around from one city & village to another
the public work - going from one city & village to another...
the preaching work - proclaiming & preaching
the gospel-work -= the kingdom of God
Pastor Geoff tells why God gives spiritual gifts to every believer and also what some of the results are when we use our spiritual gifts.
How to find your spiritual gift? Here is some counsel:
1. study your Bible
2. pray about it
3. examine your motives
4. consider your abilities in the context of the church
a list & write out the following in 4 categories:
1) CAN DO (ways you're able to serve)
2) HAVE DONE (ways God has already used you)
3) DOING BETTER (areas in which you're improving)
4) WANT TO DO (ministries you'd like to serve in)
5. ask others
6. take opportunities to serve
In this message, Pastor Geoff teaches part 2 on the Road to Emmaus and builds on how the men say: "Were not our hearts *burning* within us as he explained the Scriptures to us on the road!"
How do YOU get a burning heart for God and for Christ and for His gospel?
1. Study the Scriptures
2. Savor Jesus Christ
3. Speak His works
"Glory to God Alone: Standing on the Solas, Part 5"
In this message, Pastor Geoff preaches on the 2 travelers who journey to Emmaus as the Risen Lord meets them on the road. And He then explains the meaning of the Scriptures to them starting with Moses and all the Prophets.
This sermon walks through the narrative in three phases.
"Men's Discussion: Finding Sinful Anger, Putting It Off & Exchanging It with Godliness!"
Pastor Geoff preaches the simple gospel that one is saved by the works and merit -- of Jesus Christ alone! The only way one can enter life is to believe in Christ alone and trust in Him entirely for salvation!
Here's a message preached on the streets of ST Louis, Missouri.
The doctrine of the Bible is sorely attacked by many in our day -- not only from outside the church but also from *inside* the church.
But what was Jesus' view of Scripture? How did He view the Word of God?
INFALLIBLE (cannot be broken) - John 10.35
USEFUL (have you not read...)
KNOWABLE (Mark 12.10 - have you not even read)
SUFFICIENT - Luke 4 - temptations (fought Satan with Scripture)
RELEVANT -- he used it in communication (Matt 19 - divorce; Deut)
TRANSFORMING --- John 7.38 - whoever believes, from his innermost being will come rivers of living water
GOD-BREATHED -- God's very words: Has not GOD said (Matt 15.4)
Since this is Jesus' own view of Scripture, let us recover and wholeheartedly embrace this high view of God's Word and trust everything it says -- from beginning to end.
