In this podcast, Pastor Geoff Kirkland talks about his main commitments:
2. Study of the Word
3. Sober-mindedness (focus, not being discouraged, distracted, deterred, sidetracked)
4. Preaching (in the church for edifying/equipping the saints & on the streets to call the lost to repent & believe)
5. Shepherd the flock
Do you have the DESIRE and ASPIRATION to the office of overseer and the work of ministry?
Do you believe your marriage is an “exemplary” marriage, though not perfect but an example for others to see and emulate?
Do you manage your own household well keeping your children in order? Do you teach them truth? Do you protect them from danger (spiritually)? Do you lead in family worship?
Are you sexually pure? Are you truly a “one-woman man” and do you abstain from all porn and fornication (in every form)?
Where do you need to grow in your *character* as a man of God (see, e.g., 1 Tim 3:3-6)?
Do you believe that you are doing the work of an elder currently? Are you teaching truth? Are you protecting from error? Are you ministering to the souls of people? Are you maturing in the faith?
Do you agree fully with the CFBC What We Teach statement? If not, where do you disagree?
Are you willing to make the time to prioritize elder meetings (twice a month on Sunday mornings) and shepherding needs as they arise, to the best of your ability?
"2 Essentials for Every Pastor: Private Prayer & Relentless Preaching"
Pastor Geoff Kirkland talks about true discipleship and the essential feature of leadership in passing the baton on to others. How to train others? What to do when others don't want discipleship?
In this audio-blog, Pastor Geoff elaborates on his sermon preparation routine each week as he prepares full-length expositions for CFBC, for open air preaching, and for men's studies, homeless shelters, and senior living facilities.
Pastor Geoff provides 5 traits for godly leadership.
1. Prayerful (dependent)
2. Biblical (theological -- men of God; men who pursue God)
3. Trustworthy (integrity)
4. Humble (servants)
5. Encouragers (care about others genuinely; seek to delegate to others; use others; train others; support & encourage them)
