Pastor Geoff preaches on the section in Luke 11 where Jesus teaches His followers to be importunate (persistent) in prayer. Like Jacob, we should wrestle with God until He blesses us. Like the Syro-Phoenecian woman, we must humbly bow and beg God till He listens and answers. Like Elijah, we should pray earnestly and expectantly till God fulfills His promises. Like blind Bartimaeus, we should cry out (and cry out louder) until the Lord stops, hears us, and answers our plea.
We must urgently come to God and press our longings upon His heart until He answers us! Let us not grow discouraged or fainthearted. But let us be a people who pray with persistence!
"The Priority of Prayer, Part 2: Learning from the Pettern of Prayer from Our Savior"
Pastor Geoff concludes the 2-part series teaching on the 'Disciples' Prayer' from Luke 11:1-4 and shows what each phrase means and how we can learn from our Savior's pattern of prayer for us.
Let us enjoy God on earth as we commune with Him in prayer.
"The Priority of Prayer: Principles to Guide You in Meeting with God in Prayer"
This is part 1 of looking at the "Disciples' Prayer". This message provides the background of prayer, the importance of prayer, a biblical survey of prayer, and the template/model of this prayer that Jesus gives in teaching us how to pray.
This message covers Luke 11:1-2.
"One Thing Necessary: Sitting at Jesus' Feet Hearing the Word of God!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on this wonderful passage of Scripture which reminds God's people that there ultimately is one thing necessary for us. With all the businesses and distractions of life, we must keep the main thing the main thing.
This message provides 4 simple helps so that we can remember the one thing necessary (sitting at the Lord's feet hearing His Word) amidst very busy lives.
"The Good Samaritan: Those Whom God Saves Will Love Their Neighbors"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the text of the familiar "Good Samaritan" account. The religious scholar, the 'lawyer' or, scribe, comes to Jesus and asks what he must do to inherit eternal life.
In speaking to this self-righteous, works-righteous, self-deceived man, Jesus shows the absolute bankruptcy of all works-based faiths (=religions) and shows how it is absolutely impossible to get to God by trying to keep the Law.
God truly hides spiritual truths from the wise and intelligent of the world. But He reveals gospel truth to infants. And it is these who in turn love God and love their neighbor because God has opened their eyes to the gospel!
"Rejoice that Your Names Are Recorded in Heaven! The Cause for Joy in Ministry!"
Pastor Geoff preaches through Luke 10:17-24 -- the return of the 70 after they fulfilled their evangelistic mission. And Christ reminds them not to rejoice in temporary results in ministry but ultimately to find their ground for rejoicing in the unchangeable and eternal reality that their names are 'recorded in heaven'.
This is the surest ground for joy in the Christian's life -- that one's POSITION before God (=name in heaven) is the foundation for joy that catapults my PRACTICE (=serving Christ in ministry) for His glory.
In this sermon there are 2 main causes for joy that are presented:
1. Rejoice that your names are eternally recorded in heaven!
2. Rejoice that your salvation is sovereignly given by Christ!
"The Need for, the Work, and Privileges of Christian Ministry"
Pastor Geoff preaches on Jesus' sending out of the 70 to do the work of ministry. In this message, we learn a number of important elements so that we can be equipped as laborers for Christ in Christian ministry.
"Jesus Begins His Journey to Jerusalem: Lessons on Compassion and Discipleship"
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 9:37ff as Jesus descends from the Mt of Transfiguration with Peter, James & John, and is immediately confronted with a father whose boy has a demon and the other 9 disciples cannot cast it out.
This story exposes the little faith that the 9 disciples had and their lack of prayer. This text calls us as the readers to have a mighty faith in a mighty God which is conjoined with persistent, believing, fervent prayer (as demonstrated by the demonized boy's father).
"The Transfiguration: The Divine Glory of Christ Unveiled!"
In this message, Pastor Geoff preaches on the glorious text on the Transfiguration. Probably no greater or clearer occasion exists where the unrivaled and unsurpassed deity of Jesus Christ is manifestly evident than here.
In this story, we see the glorious Christ under a number of headings...
This glorious Christ is...
Persistent in prayer
Presenting His glory
Preparing to suffer
Promising the Kingdom
Proven by God
"Jesus' Identity & Mission & His Call for You to Come & Die!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through the Book of Luke and preaches on the text where Christ asks the 12 disciples: "who do people say that I am?"
Peter responds with an amazing affirmation of Christ's identity (the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Matt 16.16) and then the Lord Jesus assures His followers that He would suffer, be rejected, be killed, and then rise again on the 3rd day.
After this, Christ sets the terms for discipleship. All of His followers must surrender entirely to the Lordship of Jesus Christ -- without exception. All who are truly saved have died to themselves, taken up their cross, and have wholeheartedly committed to following Christ with absolute allegiance to Him!
"Jesus Feeds the 5,000 — A Study of Christ: God's Provision for Our Salvation is Christ!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the text where Jesus feeds the multitude of people with only 5 barley loaves and a few small fish. This text shows that Jesus is God's provision for our salvation. No other way to be saved than to come to Jesus Christ -- the Bread of Life.

Geoffrey R. Kirkland
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 9:1-10a on Christ's calling and commissioning of the 12 Apostles to do ministry in the Galilee area. In this message, Geoff shows how to properly interpret this unit (the narrative genre) and he shows what are the marks/characteristics of a true Apostle thus showing that all of the Apostles ceased in the 1st century (with all the miraculous, apostolic, sign-gifts).
But in this text, 5 helpful truths come to light for all Christians since all believers are ministers of the new covenant and we are called to be ambassadors for Christ to take His gospel to all the nations.
Listen to these 5 helpful truths to guide you through your life of ministry.
"Jesus Heals a Bleeding Woman and Raises a Little Girl from the Dead!"
Luke includes 2 more miracles at the conclusion of chapter 8 to reveal the power & authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Earlier in Luke, he showed that Jesus has...
1. power over the storm (8:22-25)
2. power over the demonic realm (8:26-39)
And in this message, there are 2 more miracles that Luke records:
3. power over all disease, defilement (8:43-48)
4. power over death (8:40-56)
Look to Christ and His mighty power & understand that He is accessible and available to save any and all who come to Him in saving faith!
"Jesus' Authority Over the Demonic Realm! Learn of the Maniac Who Became a Missionary!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the text where the demonized man approaches Jesus and Jesus heals him wholly.
This message covers what demon possession is, what the demonic realm is like, the power and authority of Jesus Christ, and how the work of Christ in the soul of a man truly changes him so that he is called to go and declare all that God has done for him.
This story of the healing of the demonized man is a sort of picture of conversion for every person.
Listen to this sermon & speak of all the great things that Christ has done for your soul!
"Jesus Calms the Storm: Jesus Is Fully God & Fully Man, He Owns Creation & Controls Creation!"
Pastor Geoff preaches the next section in the study through Luke's gospel. This narrative covers the disciples & Jesus on a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee when a massive storm breaks. The disciples are full of worry, anxiety, doubt, and worry & they run to Christ & beg Him to act. He rises up, commands the winds and the waves to cease, and they obey Him immediately. The disciples reply: "Who then is this?" You must answer this question as well! Who, then, is Jesus?
Jesus is fully man (sleeping) as well as fully God (controlling creation).
He deserves our worship!
"Take Care How You Listen! Properly Understanding the Parable of the Soils, Part 2"
This sermon is part 2 on the study of the "Parable of the Soils."
Part 1 covered the overview of the parable, what parables are, why Jesus spoke in parables, and the first two soils -- the seed cast on the road and the seed cast on the rocky soil.
Part 2, in this message, covers the final two soils: the thorny soil and the good soil.
Take note that 3 of the 4 kinds of hearers of God's Word do not persevere and have no lasting fruit and are thus unconverted. Only 1 of the 4 soils that our Lord speaks about truly are converted.
Take care how you listen! He who has an ear, let him hear!
Examine yourself as you hear our Lord's teaching and make certain that you are in faith!
"Take Care How You Listen! Are You Saved? The Parable of the Soils, Part 1"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the parable of the soils. The Lord Jesus, at a very important turning point in his public ministry, began teaching in parables to conceal spiritual truth from the masses who have rejected Him.
In this parable, Jesus tells of the seed of the Word which goes forth & there are four kinds of soils (=hearers). Three of them are unconverted while only one of them is truly saved.
This message journeys through the text and looks at it under four headings.
"Essential Features in the Ministry of the Gospel"
In this lengthy account, John the Baptist battles with some doubts as to whether Jesus is in fact the "Expected One". Jesus gently, compassionately & biblically reminds John of who He really is (from texts in Isaiah) and reminds the people that John is the greatest of those born of women -- yet anyone born in the new era (under the New Covenant) have far more blessings and benefits that John enjoyed.
This message provides 7 ways for you to battle with doubt in your life.
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke. This account in Luke 7:11-17 shows how Jesus is in fact the true prophet of God as He raises a widow's son from the dead. By His spoken Word alone, Jesus Christ raises the dead -- he gives life to dead men by His grace & by His initiative.
This historical account also pictures the spiritual reality of regeneration.
This sermon provides 4 ways that we can go back in time and see and experience the events as they unfolded in the ancient city of Nain.
In this closing message, Pastor Geoff preaches on the final, concluding part of the Sermon on the Mount -- when Christ presents two builders who build on very different foundations.
This sermon is all about how you 'listen to' and 'hear' the Word of God. Lots of people hear Christ's Words but few people 'do according to what they have heard.'
How do you hear Christ's Words? Do you come to Him, hear His Word, and act accordingly?
This final, concluding illustration in Christ's Sermon on the Mount needs to be heard by the professing church today. Scores of people hear Christ's Words, but there are masses that do not do what He says.
Let him who has an ear, listen to what Christ says.
Luke 6:46 and Matthew 7:21 are the concluding exhortations to many religious people as Christ calls them to examine themselves and see if they truly are doing the Father's will or if they are paying mere lip service to Christ.
Many will say "Lord Lord" on that final judgment day & yet Christ will declare to them: "I never knew you, depart from me, you who practice lawlessness." May these piercing and thundering words never be heard by any who are warned by Christ!
O this is a message for the American church today! Scores, millions of people 'profess' Christ but don't possess Him. Multitudes what heaven but they don't want holiness. Masses of people want the blessings from God but they will not be in submission to God.
Those who do not surrender to Christ and follow Him pay mere lip service to Him and will hear those thundering and shocking words on that final day: "Depart from me!"
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 6:43-45 in the final "exhortation" section of Christ's Sermon on the Mount. In this portion of the sermon, he has just pleaded with the crowds to enter through the narrow gate and how he shows them WHY they must do so -- because the heart is the root that brings forth fruit. He shows that one's conduct, thoughts, words, and ways of life all come from the heart.
Listen to this message & examine your own heart & the fruit of your life that reveals what kind of tree you are!
