Pastor Geoff continues the verse-by-verse exposition thru the Gospel of Luke and teaches on the parable of the Lost Coin. In this story, as with the other parables in Luke 15, the theme centers on the happy joy of God over one sinner who repents!
This message looks at the story that Jesus told of the lost coin and the message concludes with an 'excurses' (a mini bible-study) on joy in heaven.
"The Parable of the Lost Sheep: The Happy Joy of God in the Salvation of Sinners!"
Pastor Geoff teaches on the parable of the 'lost sheep' -- and shows how this is an indictment against the Jewish leadership of the day since they couldn't be further from the heart of God that rejoices when God's people are saved in Christ.
But it also shows the great joy that God has when He seeks and saves His lost ones!
"The Cleansing of the Leper: Jesus Heals the Walking Dead!"
Pastor Geoff teaches on a very important unit of Scripture when Jesus, our Lord, sets forth the terms of discipleship. He lays down the requirements for ALL of His disciples. These aren't just the qualifications for the missionaries, or the pastors. Rather, these are the terms that Christ gives for all those who wish to be Christians.
Listen to this message & count the cost! Salvation is free! But it'll cost you everything!
"The Duty of All Slaves: Go Out & Compel Sinners to Come to God's Feast!"
Pastor Geoff preaches the parable that Jesus tells while at a home of one of the rulers of the Pharisees (Luke 14:1ff). In this story that Jesus tells, a host provides a large, gracious, lavish banquet and calls those who were invited to come for everything is ready!
But they all -- alike -- begin to make excuses and they refuse to come! O the tragedy of wasted opportunity! O the many millions that now perish in hell because of excuses!
Christ tells His slave to go out and compel men to come in to the feast so that His house may be full!
This is our mission -- every Christian's mission! -- to go out to the lost and compel them to come in! We are to urge, press upon, plead with, and compel all sinners to come to Christ and to enter this most glorious banquet!
Let us obey our Savior's call & go out to the lost & plead with them to come to Christ!
"Father Forgive Them..." Jesus' Words from the Cross
Pastor Geoff provides a word-study on the word "compel" in Luke 14:23 when the Master says to the slave: "go out into the highways and along the hedges, and COMPEL them to come in, so that my house may be filled."
What does it mean to "compel" people to be saved? What does this mean for you personally?
"Jesus Exposes the Sin of Pride & Provides Counsel for What to Replace It With!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the story where Jesus has been invited into a home of a ruling Pharisee and it is in this context where Jesus rebukes:
1) the invited guests for seeking to take the places/seats of honor at the dinner feast.
2) the host himself for he invited only his friends (that could repay him!) and did not invite the poor, crippled, lame, blind, and outcasts.
This message and text deals with the sin of pride. And in this message, pastor Geoff concludes with 7 ways to practically wage war with your pride & replace it with humility.
In this message, Pastor Geoff preaches the text where Christ demonstrates courage & compassion.
God's sovereign plans cannot be thwarted or overcome by any opposition. And Christ Himself has such overwhelming compassion for the lost & laments the unwillingness of the people to come to Him -- who is so willing to receive sinners!
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 13:18-21 where Christ provides 2 parables (short stories with spiritual meaning):
1. the parable of THE MUSTARD SEED
2. the parable of LEAVEN
The simple point in these parables is this: the kingdom of God grows -- and it will grow -- till it reaches and permeates the world & nothing can stop or hinder this growth!
This message also covers what the kingdom of God, how the Old Testament & New Testament speak of this Kingdom & surveys the concept of the kingdom in Luke's gospel.
Listen to this message & be encouraged that God's Kingdom cannot be stopped!
"Jesus Heals a Sick Woman on the Sabbath: Some Glorify God & Some Rage Against God!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke's gospel. In Luke 13:10, Luke begins a new travel unit narrative that journeys through the final couple of months of Christ's life before the Passion Week. In Luke 13:10-17:10, we have the final travels and teachings and conflicts of the final months of Christ's life.
This story in 13:10-17 is of Jesus healing a 'bent double' woman in a Synagogue on the Sabbath. Christ by His power supernaturally heals and reveals His overwhelming tenderness toward the hurting woman & His overwhelming power of Satan, the Evil One.
Pastor Geoff continues the verse-by-verse exposition through the Gospel of Luke. Luke 12:1-13:9 is one unit -- it's a traveling narrative as Jesus speaks to thousands of people as He journeys in Judea.
In this text, Luke 13:1-9, Jesus calls all those who hear Him to repent for if they do not they will perish!
This message speaks of the DEMAND for repentance (unless you repent you'll perish) and the DESCRIPTION of genuine repentance (fruitbearing & the parable of the barren fig tree).
Listen to this exposition & ask yourself: "have I genuinely repented?" Turn from your wicked ways and live!
"3 Urgent Matters to Understand Before Fiery Judgment Falls!"
Pastor Geoff concludes Luke 12 and preaches the unit where Christ was addressing the massive crowds (Luke 12.1, many thousands) and here in this paragraph Jesus exhorts all the hearers to urgently make a decision to be reconciled to God through Christ before it's too late.
The door of grace is open! The door of opportunity is available! Come to Christ now! Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts!
"Be Watchful for & Faithful Till the Coming of the LORD! Don't Receive Greater Condemnation!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke and teaches Luke 12:41-48 as our Lord teaches the crowds that all must be ready for the coming of the Son of Man.
Those who know the Master's will and do not act accordingly and prepare themselves will receive many lashes (in hell). Those who do not know his will but still do deeds worthy of condemnation will receive but few (in hell).
With greater light and exposure to the gospel, the condemnation of sinners will be greater. Don't fall into the lowest depths of hell from the pew of your bible-teaching church! With much light comes great responsibility!
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 11:5-8 at the Grace Bible Conference hosted by Rockport Baptist Church in Arnold, MO.
This message centers on the theme of shepherding one another through persistently praying to God. Pastors, fathers, husbands, and leaders must remember to shepherd one another through persistently praying for one another.
Let us remember the power of persistent praying.
"Jesus Is Alive & Returning! Be Ready for His Soon-Coming!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through the Gospel of Luke & preaches 12:22-34 on the 'sin of worry.' Even though all people battle with sin and anxiety it is not to be tolerated and shoved aside as simply an 'issue' that everyone deals with.
It is sin and we must call it such. And there is, by God's glorious grace & clear revelation, a divine remedy for the sin of worry/anxiety -- faith in God & active, intentional & frequent thanksgiving to God (Phil 4:6ff).
Pastor Geoff continues preaching expositionally & verse by verse through this discourse in Luke 12:1 which continues through Luke 13:9. He teaches before myriads of people who swarm him as he travels in the open air.
In this message, Jesus warns His listeners to be on guard against every form of greed (or, covetousness).
This message defines greediness, cautions against greediness, illustrates greediness, explains how to mortify (kill) greediness, and shows why God indicts greediness.
Listen to this message & draw near to Christ with fervent love for Him in your soul!
"Sins That You Must Guard Against As Followers of Christ!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke's gospel and concludes chapter 11 with the lunch 'meal-scene' that Jesus has at the home of a Pharisee. In this astounding text, our sovereign Lord pronounces six 'woe' (eternally damning) curses upon the Pharisees and the lawyers [=scribes] of the day. He exposes their hypocrisy, their pride, and their hatred for the people of God and for the Lord Himself.
Listen to this message and 'examine yourself & see whether you are in the faith'. Make sure these 7 marks do NOT describe you. For if they do, you must repent, turn from your sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation from divine judgment.
"Jesus Warns You of 2 Common (& Tragic) Responses to Him!"
Pastor Geoff preaches Luke 11:14-26 which comprises an exorcism miracle and then a subsequent conflict that erupts because of Christ's powerful works.
It is an amazing narrative because the miracle itself (the exorcism) only occupies one verse! All of the remaining verses in the chapter deal with the virulent hostility and the surging animosity that soars because of Christ's powerful and undeniable works.
Listen to this message which focuses on Christ's almighty power over Satan, over the kingdom of darkness, and over sin! Our Savior, the Lord Jesus, has come and has defeated and destroyed the works of the devil!
Let us rejoice in Him! Let us cast our souls on Him! Let us rely fully and comfortably in Him!
"The PROMISES of Prayer. Ask! Seek! Knock! Believe that God Gives Good Gifts to His Children!"
In this message, Pastor Geoff continues the study through prayer from Luke 11:
1. The PRIORITY of prayer (v.1)
2. The PATTERN of prayer (vv.2-4)
3. The PERSISTENCE of prayer (vv.5-8)
4. The PROMISES of prayer (vv.9-13)
This message deals with the great and large promises that God gives to us as His beloved children. We are invited to Ask! and Seek! and Knock! Let us pray with confidence and hold God to His Word!
"The Persistence in Prayer -- Shameless Boldness in Coming Before God!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the section in Luke 11 where Jesus teaches His followers to be importunate (persistent) in prayer. Like Jacob, we should wrestle with God until He blesses us. Like the Syro-Phoenecian woman, we must humbly bow and beg God till He listens and answers. Like Elijah, we should pray earnestly and expectantly till God fulfills His promises. Like blind Bartimaeus, we should cry out (and cry out louder) until the Lord stops, hears us, and answers our plea.
We must urgently come to God and press our longings upon His heart until He answers us! Let us not grow discouraged or fainthearted. But let us be a people who pray with persistence!
"The Priority of Prayer, Part 2: Learning from the Pettern of Prayer from Our Savior"
Pastor Geoff concludes the 2-part series teaching on the 'Disciples' Prayer' from Luke 11:1-4 and shows what each phrase means and how we can learn from our Savior's pattern of prayer for us.
Let us enjoy God on earth as we commune with Him in prayer.
"The Priority of Prayer: Principles to Guide You in Meeting with God in Prayer"
This is part 1 of looking at the "Disciples' Prayer". This message provides the background of prayer, the importance of prayer, a biblical survey of prayer, and the template/model of this prayer that Jesus gives in teaching us how to pray.
