In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches on the importance of this genealogy in Luke (and the similar one in Matthew 1). He pulls out four theological truths from the text so that we can see the paramount importance of this text in Luke's gospel and for Luke's purpose to show that Jesus is, in fact, the Savior offered to both Jews and Gentiles!
1. God has given a perfectly inspired & inerrant book to you!
2. Jesus can relate to you in every single way!
3. God sovereignly works all things according to His plan!
4. Jesus came to bring redemption to mankind!
"The Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ: The Messianic King Is Here!"
This profound and significant text of Jesus' baptism signifies the divine credentials and the divine approval for Christ's ministry.
The baptism of Christ was one of the last acts in His private life before he launched the public ministry. In this text, Jesus is baptized by John in the Jordan, the Spirit of God comes upon Christ and empowers Him for ministry, and the Father thunders out of heaven that Jesus is in fact the Beloved Son in whom God is well-pleased.
Old Testament allusions and texts abound in this brief text. Listen to this sermon & strive to emulate Christ as a man of prayer and a man fully dependent on the Spirit of God.
"Endeavor to Emulate the Unflinching Courage of John the Baptist!"
In this message, Pastor Geoff preaches the entire unit of Luke 3:1-18 and shows how John the Baptist came from God and preached an urgent — and necessary — message of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
Listen to the message of the forerunner of the Messiah. Listen to how serious he took sin. And yet notice how humble he was in that he pointed all attention to Christ, the Coming One!
"Be Saved from Hellfire! A Message from the Flames!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the only biblical text that speaks of Christ in his years growing up as a youth. When he was 12, His parents took Him to the Temple for the Passover Feast and it was here, at this occasion, that Christ revealed that He must about His Father's business.
Listen to this sermon & a clear exhortation to the youth to live sold-out for Christ and for His glory!
"How the Humanity of Jesus Encourages Preachers of the Gospel"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke's Gospel and here he focuses on Anna (2:36-38) — a propetess who served God until the age of 84, even as a widow. She worshiped with passion, with hunger, with prayer, with fastings, with evangelism.
She was a woman after God's own heart. This character, Anna, models not only for all women but for every senior saint (the 'aged') how to live in undistracted worship & undiminished praise in the elderly years.
"My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation! Beholding the Face of the God-Man!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke's gospel and teaches on "Simeon." Simeon was an elderly man waiting for the Messiah to appear. And when God providentially brought Simeon into the Temple to behold the newborn baby, the God-Man, Simeon praised God and gave a prophecy of the future life & work of Jesus. He would, in fact, be the dividing line so that many would receive Him for eternal life & many would reject Him for eternal death.
Listen to this sermon & apply the 3 lessons.
"The Obedience of Christ to the Law: He Actively Obeyed the Father in Everything!"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the active obedience of Jesus Christ as he submitted to the Father & obeyed the Law in 2 specific ways in this text:
1. He obeyed in His circumcision
2. He obeyed in His consecration
In the piety of His parents, the Lord Jesus obeyed the Law and fulfilled all righteousness. He was born under the Law to redeem those under the Law.
And all of His righteousness is credited to the believer's account through faith at the moment of salvation.
"Stand Amazed at the Humble Birth of the Savior Who Came to Save Sinners! See His Lowliness!"
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through the Gospel of Luke and teaches on the birth of Christ in Bethlehem. He shows the humility, the lowliness, & the salvation in Jesus Christ, the God-Man.
Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through the first chapter of Luke and in this message, he preaches on Zecharias's prophecy/song of praise.
Zecharias brings three Old Testament covenants (Davidic, Abrahamic, and the New) into his prophecy and shows how they all point to and find fulfillment in Jesus Christ and in His great plan of redemption.
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff preaches on the birth narrative of John the Baptist. The faithfulness bleeds through this entire text. God fulfills His promises and His Word exactly as He said he would.
"Mary's Song of Praise: How You Can Praise God With Your Life"
Pastor Geoff preaches on the meeting of Mary and Elizabeth. Two women with two babies by miraculous conceptions meet together. Mary models tremendous zeal for God and confident faith in God. Elizabeth models humility in the Lord and a bold assertion that Jesus is Lord over her life.
Listen to this sermon & apply it to your life!
Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and do it.
"Stand Amazed at the Grace of God! The Announcement of Jesus' Birth"
In this sermon, Pastor Geoff continues the exposition through Luke and shows how God acts in human history for his glory. God announces the coming birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah, who was ministering as a priest in the Temple.
Learn three very important, yet practical, lessons.
"A Jet-Tour Through Luke: Know the Exact Truth About Jesus!"
Pastor Geoff preaches in the chapel at Brookes Bible Institute in St Louis, Missouri. In this sermon, he pleads with the students and faculty to be constant in prayer and never lose heart!
He works through the parable and then exhorts the listeners to pray constantly, frequently, expectantly, boldly, and joyfully. He then provides 5 reasons why believers should pray and never lose heart.
